In the event of an accident, fire or theft of the car, we'll cover your battery in full as part of the claim - even if it's leased separately.

Our comprehensive policy also gives you full cover for your charging accessories in the event of accidental damage, fire or theft. This includes your cables (at home and away) as well as your home charging wall box (whether it's tethered or un-tethered).

Our comprehensive electric car insurance covers you if you’re responsible for an accident involving your car that injures someone. This includes accidents caused by a charging cable that's in use and attached to your car... but you’re responsible for taking reasonable care to prevent accidents when charging your vehicle.

This means it’s down to you to make sure you’re not creating a hazard, like leaving cables coiled up or left loose where someone could easily trip over them. You should avoid leaving them trailed across a public footpath, for example. If it’s unavoidable, then take necessary precautions like using cable covers and signs to warn people of the potential hazard.

A car insurance excess is the amount you have to pay towards a claim yourself.

There are two types of excess:

• Compulsory excess - this is a fixed excess, set by us, which you'll have to pay if you make a claim. The amount varies depending on your circumstances.
• Voluntary excess - this is the amount that you agree to pay, in addition to your compulsory excess, if you make a claim. People agree to a voluntary excess in return for a lower premium - just make sure it’s an amount you could afford if you needed to claim.

Here's an example to explain how it works:

Let's say your policy has a £250 excess.
You have an accident and you make a claim.
The bill to repair the damage comes to £1,000.
You pay your £250 excess towards the bill.
We cover the balance of £750 to settle the bill.

Everyone's excess is different, so to find out how much you might have to pay if you had to make a claim, please check your policy documents for more information.

If you don't use an LV= recommended repairer for your repairs you'll need to pay an additional £200 excess and we can't offer a courtesy car (if you have this cover) or warranty on the repairs.

Transferring your vehicle is easy. We already have your details and the details of any named drivers on your policy, so you just need to tell us about the new car. Visit our page on how to change your car to get started.

Yes, if you'd like to insure two electric cars at the same time, there are two ways to do this. You can take out a multi car insurance policy or two separate policies.

If you choose our multi car insurance, you can add up to 6 cars and 12 drivers on one policy.

Yes, as long as the car's insured by LV= you can add someone to an existing policy. Depending on your situation, you may decide the best option is to add a friend or relative to your policy permanently.

You can also temporarily add a driver or vehicle to your LV= car insurance policy if you need short term or temporary cover.

Just so you know, we'll charge a £15 admin fee each time you change your vehicle, add or remove a driver or remove a car from your Multi Car insurance.

To add a new driver, we need to know their:

• Full name
• Date of birth
• Main occupation
• Driving licence number or
• Licence type (Full, Provisional), the year they got it and whether it's a UK, EU or another type of licence
• Motoring convictions in the last 5 years - conviction month and year, offence code, disqualification period
• Accidents or claims in the last 5 years - month and year of claim, claim type i.e. fault, partial fault, non-fault, etc.

It's important to remember we reserve the right to cancel your policy should too many alterations be made throughout the life of your policy.

You need to be clear with your insurer about who drives the car most often. You can't state that someone else is the main driver if you’re driving the car on more occasions than them - this is illegal and known as ‘fronting.’

Whoever drives the car most often is the ‘main driver,’ with any other drivers being ‘named drivers.’ If you’re not honest about this, it’s considered fraud. Want to know more? LV= explains car insurance fraud.
