Travel insurance coronavirus update

We've updated some of our travel insurance terms and conditions...

What do these changes mean for you?

From 14 September 2020, a new exclusion for claims relating to pandemics will apply to all sections of your policy. This means you won’t be covered for any claims relating to a pandemic, except where cover has been expressly stated in sections:

Any new policy or renewal effective from 14 September 2020 won’t cover certain claims caused by any coronavirus (including COVID-19), or any other contagious disease declared as a pandemic after 1 March 2020 by the World Health Organisation (WHO)

The information below shows the changes to what is and isn’t covered after 14 September 2020.

Only the reasons listed under ‘what is covered’ will be covered.

You can find more information in your document of travel insurance.

Section A: If you need to cancel your trip before you travel

What's covered?

  • If your trip or holiday has to be cancelled because you or a travelling companion are diagnosed with any coronavirus (including COVID-19) or contagious disease and are unable to travel

Examples of what's not covered...

  • Trip costs if your trip or holiday is cancelled by your airline or travel provider because the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has imposed travel restrictions due to any coronavirus (including COVID-19) or contagious disease, either in the UK or at your destination

  • Costs because the FCO or public authorities have imposed travel restrictions or a lockdown

Section B: If you need to cancel excursions or activities while on your trip
