WHAT IS LONG-TERM CARE PLANNING?

Our qualified LV= experts can help you make informed decisions about the best way to pay for your long-term care fees

Long-term care planning is an essential part of managing your finances in later life. It helps you plan and manage the significant costs of long-term care services, such as home care, assisted living and nursing homes.

There are a number of ways to fund long-term care, so it’s worth seeking advice to ensure you’re choosing the right plan to meet your unique circumstances.

Retirement is a huge milestone and most hope to have a long and healthy life living independently in their own home. For some though, it may mean needing a form of care in later life either at home or in a care home. That’s where long-term care planning advice can help.

Our specialist care fees advisers can search the whole of the market and recommend a product most suited to your individual needs to help fund the cost of long-term care.

The cost of long-term care

The cost of long-term care in the UK will depend on both the type of care in question but also where in the country the facility is. For example, London will be more expensive than care homes in the North East.

What is the average care home costs?

According to Carehome.co.uk, in 2025 the average monthly cost of a residential care home in the UK is £5,164, which equates to £67,132 per year.

What is the average nursing home cost?

The average monthly cost of a nursing home in the UK is £6,180 a month, which equates to £80,340 a year.

What’s more, in recent years the cost of care has been steadily increasing each year.

For many people these sums are significant and therefore it’s important to plan for the covering of these expenses whether it be from personal savings, an insurance product, government aid or local authority support.

We compare long-term care products from across the market including Aviva, Legal & General, Just and National Friendly.

What else do you need to consider when looking into long-term care planning?
