LV= KidZone 2025

We’re proud to support our local community through LV= KidZone – a beach safety scheme that helps to keep children and vulnerable adults safe across our local coastline.

The LV= Kidzone scheme, run in partnership with BCP Council, made 130 reunions during the 2025 summer season, which ran from 1 July – 1 September. A fantastic effort by the team across the summer resulted in an average reunion time of only seven minutes. The average age of a lost loved one was six years old, the youngest being two.

From 1 July, free wristbands were available for collection from all seafront offices and RNLI lifeguard towers across the 15 miles of BCP seafront.

From 19 July the beaches of Bournemouth, Boscombe, Alum and Durley Chine had LV= KidZone operatives working alongside seafront rangers, who distributed wristbands directly to families.

Here are some real-life examples, highlighting the importance of LV= KidZone.

A distressed mother ran to a lifeguard tower looking for help as her two-year-old child was missing. The LV= KidZone team were given a description and started searching. The child was found within just eight minutes building sandcastles with a bucket they had found.

The LV= KidZone team were informed that an 86-year-old with dementia had walked to the toilet but hadn’t returned. All surrounding toilets and cafés were searched and after 30 minutes Dorset Police were called to help. As the search continued, it was recommended that the family returned home to wait for news. When they got home, they were pleased to see their loved one already there and safe after they walked home by themselves.

The amusement arcade on Bournemouth Pier made a radio call to the LV= KidZone team as a seven-year-old had gone missing. The team gathered details, including a description, and after just five minutes the child was found.

A member of the public approached one of the LV= KidZone team who was handing out wristbands as they had found a five-year-old wandering the beach. The child was crying and said that they had lost their mum on the beach, but they weren’t wearing a wristband containing contact information. The child was able to give a description of what their mum was wearing and this was shared with the wider team who started the search. After 22 minutes, the mum was found and reunited with their child. The child was given a wristband so that they had peace of mind in case the same thing happened again.
