- Three AW Group and two Vella Group sites have demonstrated their green credentials across six areas including environmental sustainability, employee mental wellbeing and company ethics
- Over 75% of LV GI= branded bodyshops are now completely carbon neutral
AW Group and the Vella Group are now officially two of the most environmentally friendly, greenest and socially responsible car repairers in the UK, having become the first LV= General Insurance (LV= GI) branded bodyshops to achieve the prestigious Green Heart Standard status.
As part of its commitment to have a positive influence on society and be environmentally responsible, earlier this year LV= General Insurance launched a new ethical standard for its branded bodyshop repair network1 – Green Heart Standard. As the first of its kind in the car insurance industry, the Green Heart Standard now requires its 25 branded bodyshops within the LV= GI network to meet the company’s corporate social responsibility goals and also become a ‘greener’ supplier.
The bodyshops who have achieved Green Heart Standard status are AW Group sites in Denaby, Derby and Sherburn In Elmet and Vella Group sites in Liverpool and Deeside.
Both AW Group and Vella Group have now successfully demonstrated their green credentials across six new principles – achieving PAS2060 carbon neutral status, using green parts to repair cars, offering electric vehicles as hire cars to customers, displaying diversity and equality in the workforce, promoting mental health awareness amongst employees and developing and training apprentices. All six principles are aligned to the LV= GI social purpose pillars of Environment and Sustainability, Diversity and Inclusion, Wellbeing and being a Responsible Business.
Altogether, just over 75% of the LV= GI branded bodyshops are now officially carbon neutral and achieved the PAS 2060 status.
Michael Golding, Network Manager at LV= GI, said: “AW Group and the Vella Group have helped pioneer the Green Heart Standard, not just by achieving PAS2060 accreditation, but also by raising environmental social impact awareness within their respective businesses. They are able to provide our customers with a repair solution where the importance of corporate social responsibility sits alongside great customer service and a high standard of repair quality. The collaboration with their staff has been fantastic and they have helped us shape its contents and purpose.”
Andrew Walsh, Founder and CEO of AW Group, said: “To become the joint first bodyshop group across the LV= GI sole supply network to achieve the Green Heart Standard is a great achievement for the team. Working with LV= on the standard propelled us to develop our own core sustainability pledges which consist of Planet, People, Performance and Price, which is at the heart of our strategy as a responsible business now and into the future.”
Marc Holding, Managing Director, The Vella Group, said: “We are delighted to have become the joint first bodyshop group in the LV= GI sole supply network to become Green Heart accredited. We have a clearly defined strategic plan which has sustainability as one of its core pillars. The Green Heart Standard mirrors many of the areas that we had outlined as critical to our future success, and our longstanding relationship with LV= GI has helped us to shape this plan.”
Steve Silverwood, Managing Director at ECA Business Energy, who have been supporting LV= and their bodyshop network in becoming carbon neutral in accordance with PAS2060, commented: “LV= has taken massive steps to encourage their network to commence their sustainability journey and have actively been promoting this strategy through the industry, working with the entire supply chain including vehicle manufacturers, paint and part companies and many other suppliers within the sector. We look forward to working with them as the industry moves towards Net Zero.”
LV= GI’s commitment to the bodyshop network was recognised at September’s NBRA Greener Bodyshop Awards, where it won the Outstanding Support for Bodyshops Award. LV= GI also sponsored the Diversity and Inclusion Award, which was won by Steer Automotive Group, an LV= GI approved repairer and sponsored a further three awards at last month’s British Bodyshop Awards in London.
1 LV= GI has 25 branded bodyshops around the UK, which are part of a wider independent network of 120 sites which service and repair thousands of cars every year.
