Make sure it’s full steam ahead for your trip with cruise travel insurance.
- Why go on a cruise now?
- Cruising with coronavirus protection
- Our coverage
You don’t have to be a sailing enthusiast or a seafaring explorer to go on a cruise. In fact, while you may think that cruise holidays are tailor-made for retirees who want to make the most of their golden years, you’ll find that a cruise has something for everyone.
The beauty of a cruise isn’t just in the majestic sunsets and the infinite horizon. It’s also in the convenience (and cost effectiveness!) of travelling to some of the world’s most stunning locations all in one trip. Take a short cruise around a few Mediterranean ports, stopping off in the south of France and then along the renowned Italian coast. Or venture further afield and do a longer tour of the Caribbean islands.
Whether you’re on your honeymoon, travelling as a family or even with a group of pals, the cruising experience will be unforgettable. And with restaurants, gyms and live entertainment on board many cruise ships, you don’t even need to go ashore if you don’t want to (though we recommend you do – when else can you see Nice, Rome and Naples in the space of five days?!).
Coronavirus and travel insurance
As we’re all aware, Coronavirus (COVID-19) had a huge impact on travel, with the cancellation of multiple flights, holidays, events and in particular; cruises.
So what does that mean for your cruise holiday and coverage? It’s important to know what cover is included on your policy before you book a trip. You can find out what is and isn't covered here.
We’ll cover medical and repatriation costs if you become unwell with COVID-19, as well as trip cancellations if you or a travelling partner falls ill with coronavirus. We also provide cover for emergency repatriation costs if the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) imposes restrictions that mean you need to come home.
Cruise travel insurance
Going on a cruise is different to a standard holiday. But that doesn’t mean getting insured has to be.
Common incidents that cruise insurance can cover are:
- Missed ports
- Being confined to your cabin for medical reasons
- Requiring transport to hospital from the ship
All of these are risks that you wouldn’t have outside of a cruise. It means you can get the right help and support, no matter where you are.
With LV=, cruise cover comes as standard on all multi-trip policies and can be added on a single trip.

Senior travel insurance
Cruises are a great way for people of all ages to see the world in style. But for older people they offer particular freedom. It means you don’t have to get on and off coaches, planes or find your way to hotels.
Getting older shouldn’t mean you stop doing what you love. If exploring new parts of the world is what you dream of, age should never put you off.
Our cruise insurance means that you can visit all the places you’ve dreamed of as there’s no upper age limit on single trip policies.
Pre-existing and medical conditions
Don’t let pre-existing medical conditions get in the way of your cruise either. Multiple pre-existing medical conditions can be covered but it’s important you declare them.
If you’re living with a disability, a medical condition, or are recovering from treatment, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to go on holiday. It’s the perfect way to relax and unwind.
