press release

LV= protects customers NCD from uninsured drivers and vandalism

LV= General Insurance, the UK’s third largest car insurer, has announced that it has extended its car insurance cover to protect customers’ no claims discount (NCD) from accidents caused by uninsured drivers as well as acts of vandalism. Where an uninsured driver is involved, customers will also not have to pay any excess.

As part of LV=’s ‘uninsured driver promise’, any customer who has a comprehensive policy and has an accident which was caused by a driver without insurance will be able to keep their NCD intact, providing they have the other driver’s details.

In addition to its ‘uninsured driver promise’, LV= car insurance also protects customers’ NCD if their car is vandalised, for example if it has been scratched by keys or had the aerials, windscreen wipers or wing mirrors snapped off.

Commenting on the news, Heather Smith, Managing Director of Direct Insurance at LV=, said: “We believe that law-abiding insured drivers should not be penalised for the actions of uninsured drivers or those vandalising their cars. It's bad enough being in an accident at all, let alone finding out that the driver to blame is not insured, but with over one million uninsured drivers on the UK's roads it’s important that our customers know they are protected. And with many of our cars being our pride and joy, we also feel it’s important that our customers don’t lose out just because someone sadly wanted to vandalise it.”
