What is vishing?
Vishing is a way for fraudsters to commit financial crime. They get private and financial information from unsuspecting people and use it to scam them
Vishers make cold calls and often ask for personal information in what seems like a normal, casual conversation. You may, for example, have had calls asking about accidents or injuries, offering compensation. Or the fraudsters may impersonate someone at LV= and ask you to give them details you’ve already shared with us.
These calls are primarily made by marketing firms or claims management companies who make contact with many people, without knowing if you’ve been in an accident or not.
Vishing is not restricted to the insurance industry, callers impersonate many financial institutions as well as the Police and other trusted companies.

Smishing is the same fraudulent act as Vishing but though a text message instead of a phone call. All the same rules apply in terms of the scammers approach, and the same rules also apply to you when it comes to not passing on any of your personal information. Always call us if you're unsure, but make sure to use the phone number on our website.
What to do if you get a suspicious call or text
Never give your personal information to anyone over the phone or in a text message unless you're sure the message or caller is genuine. LV= will always invite you to call us back so you know it's us on the end of the line.
If you suspect a vishing call, ask for more information from the caller, such as their name, company, contact details, the reason for their call and where they got your number.

It's difficult for us to investigate each individual case, especially when there isn't a lot of information about the caller or who sent the text message. We conduct regular analysis of inbound calls received by the business and information provided by customers that are considered as suspicious vishing/smishing or nuisance calls or texts.
The calls and texts are collated and reviewed to identify organisations or trends that may cause a risk not only to our customers but also the business, particularly our policy and claim areas.
How do LV= protect you?
When managing your claim, we may pass your details to our approved suppliers such as garages, hire companies and solicitors so that they can assist you with your claim. However, we will always let you know in advance who they are and why they'll be contacting you.
We don't sell any data and being regulated by the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) and ICO (Information Commissioners Office) registered, LV= has a duty to protect its customers, employees and members. To do this we have strict controls and robust procedures in place that prevent and detect fraud or financial crime.
