Single trip travel insurance

Unless you’re planning to take more than one holiday in a year, buying single trip travel insurance (also known as single trip holiday insurance) is well worth thinking about.

You could save money with LV= single trip travel insurance. But what you get for your money is more important than the price you pay − make sure your single trip travel insurance policy covers what you want it to.

Things to check

As with all travel insurance, there are a few things to check when considering single trip travel insurance.

Cover per trip

LV= single trip travel insurance can cover you for up to 366 days. Some other companies offering single trip travel insurance policies have shorter maximum trip periods and less flexible cover.

Period of cover

You may decide to start your single trip travel insurance cover on the same date as your holiday – but check when any cancellation cover starts – you may wish to start your single trip travel insurance policy on the date you booked your holiday instead. Holiday cost included?

It’s often possible to buy your single trip travel insurance at the same time as you book your holiday. This is certainly convenient, and may even be offered as ‘included’ in the price of the holiday – but, as with all similar offers, you pay for it somewhere! And you may not always get the choice or flexibility of cover you want. 

Personal baggage cover

You may not need this – you may be covered under your home insurance. Also check whether you need extra protection for your cash, credit cards, passports or other important documents.

Cancellation cover

Check that you’re covered for illness, death in the family, redundancy – these are usually standard, but it’s worth checking – for example, the definition of a ‘family member’ may vary between different single trip travel insurance policies.

There may be age limits, health restrictions and destination or activity restrictions and you may need to consider extra cover when considering single trip travel insurance.

Other things to consider
