Welcome to LV=
We are the UK's largest friendly society (according to the Association of Friendly Societies Key Statistics 2007 and based on total net assets). It is our aim to help customers find freedom from financial worry, by providing a wide range of reliable and good value financial products – from savings to insurance and investments.
We started out in 1843. Back then, our aim was to help people on low incomes maintain a basic standard of living for their families and save for a decent funeral. It was all about making financial security and peace of mind available to more than just the privileged few.
Mutual means we only work for you
Today, those values continue to underpin everything we do. In addition, as a mutual organisation where one member has one vote, we are not answerable to external shareholders.
Instead, we are owned by our members and so we only work for you. Because we don't have any shareholders to pay, mutuals like us exist solely for the benefit of our members and customers. Our aim is to deliver better returns and higher levels of service for you over the long term.

When people ask us to sum up what we do, we say it's about helping people protect and provide for the things they love in life. It's a job we enjoy – and we hope it shows in the way we work for our members and customers.
