Log in to your account to view and download your policy documents and view any saved quotes. If you don’t already have one, you can register for your new LV= account

Transferring your vehicle is easy! We already have your details and the details of the drivers on your current policy, so all you need to do is tell us about the new car.

You can call us on 0330 678 5226 and let us know. We'll update your car insurance policy and send you a new Certificate of Insurance.

When you call, we need to know:

• Your vehicle registration number
• If there are any changes to the manufacturer's standard specification

If you don't know your registration number, you'll need to tell us the make, model, engine size and the year your car was made.

Just so you know, we'll charge a £15 admin fee each time you add/remove or change a car on your policy.

Yes you can, as long as the car is insured by LV=. In many instances you may decide that adding a friend or relative permanently onto your policy is the best option. However, temporarily adding a driver or vehicle to your LV= Car insurance policy may be a preferred option for the temporary use of your vehicle or for adding a driver onto your policy short term. Just so you know we charge a £15 admin fee each time you change your vehicle, add or remove a driver or remove a car from your Car insurance.

If you want to add another driver to your existing policy, you can call us on 0330 678 5226.

To add a new driver, we need to know their:

• Full name
• Date of birth
• Main occupation
• Driving licence number or
• Licence type (Full, Provisional), the year they got it and whether it's a UK, EU or another type of licence
• Motoring convictions in the last 5 years - conviction month and year, offence code, disqualification period
• Accidents or claims in the last 5 years - month and year of claim, claim type i.e. fault, partial fault, non-fault etc

It is important to remember that we reserve the right to cancel your policy should too many alterations be made throughout the life of your policy.

You need to be clear with your insurer about who drives the car the most often. You cannot state that someone else is the main driver if you’re driving the car on more occasions than them, as this is called ‘fronting’. Whoever is driving the car the most often is the ‘main driver’, with any other drivers being ‘named drivers.’ If you’re not honest about this, it’s considered fraud.

Yes, there are two ways to do this. You can either take out a multi car insurance policy, or you can take out two separate car insurance policies. If you choose our multi car insurance, we'll give you an extra discount and you can insure up to 6 vehicles on one policy.

To cancel your car insurance policy, give us a call on 0330 678 5226.

If you have a multi car policy, call us and we can remove the car, without you having to cancel the whole policy.

If you've not made a claim, we'll refund any money you've paid, less a charge for the cover you've had, and a cancellation charge of £40. After the initial 14 day 'cooling off' period, if you've made a claim, you won't get a refund.

If it shows cover for Driving Other Cars on your policy documents, we'll cover you so you're legally allowed to drive someone else's privately owned car, even if you aren't named on their insurance. This type of cover is referred to as Third Party Only.

This means if you're involved in an accident that's your fault, our policy will cover any damage you may cause to a third party or their property, but we won't cover the car you're driving at all. The owner won't be able to claim for the damage you caused to their car under their own policy either, as you're not named on their insurance.

Whether you’re covered or not, by law the owner still needs to make sure they’ve insured the car to avoid any issues with the police.

As the cover is minimal it's only meant to be used on rare occasions or in emergencies, if you'll be driving someone else’s car on a regular basis, you should get yourself added to their insurance.

Damage caused by using wrong fuel – if you’ve accidentally started your car after using the wrong fuel, we’ll pay to fix the resulting damage to the engine and drain & flush the fuel tank. You’ll just have to pay your excess. We’ll agree with you how best to arrange repair - if you’ve already made arrangements we’ll only consider payment if you provide us with receipts for the work.

If you accidentally use E10 rather than E5 there’s no need to drain the tank, just fill with E5 next time.

No, with LV= car insurance, windscreen claims don't affect your no claim discount.

Firstly, the most important thing is to make sure you're safe. If nobody's been hurt, then stay calm and follow these steps:

• If another person or vehicle was involved; exchange details including, names and addresses, phone numbers, registration numbers, makes and models.
• If the other vehicle is a lorry, you should take a note of the number on the cab and the trailer insurers and policy numbers.
• If the other vehicle is registered in a foreign country, make a note of what country it's from and the 'green card' number - this helps us contact the UK representatives.
• Avoid discussing who was to blame, even if you think it's obvious.
• It may also help us to sort out the claim sooner if you let us have any photographs taken at the scene or can provide details of any CCTV cameras covering the area where it happened.
• Jot down names and addresses of any witnesses and details of the police (if they attended).
• Lastly, when you're home safely, give us a call on 0330 678 5550. You can ask someone else to report the claim but we'll need to talk to you about it afterwards; we'll take all details during the initial phone call and there are no forms to complete.
