As you may have already heard, on Wednesday 19th December at 9pm, drones were flown over the airfield at Gatwick which caused the runways to be closed. As flights remain disrupted and the police continue to investigate the incident, we advise you to contact your airline or tour operator to find out how your trip may be affected. In the meantime, we’ve answered some of the questions you may have:

I’m due to fly from Gatwick over the next few days, what should I do?

If you’re due to travel from Gatwick, we strongly recommend that you check your flight status with the airline you booked with before you leave for the airport. You can find more information here.

I’ve been delayed either on my outbound or inbound flight for more than 12 hours, what happens now?

If you’re a Premier travel policy holder, you’ll be compensated £25 for every 12 hours you’re delayed at your pre booked departure point up to £250

My flight has been cancelled or delayed for more than 24 hrs, when will I be able to travel?

  • Contact your airline or travel agent who should be able to reschedule your flight or provide a refund for your ticket
  • If your flight is cancelled and you are unable to get a refund through your travel provider or credit card company, our Premier Travel policy covers lost costs up to £10,000.

I’ve been delayed and I’ve missed my connecting transport, what do I do?

  • If you’re a Premier travel policy holder, we can offer you up to £1000 per trip for extra transport costs if you miss your pre-booked connecting transport as the result of a delay.

I now have a rescheduled flight but I can’t use my original accommodation, what do I do next?

  • If you booked your accommodation through a travel agent, please contact them first as they may be able to find you alternative accommodation
  • If you’re a Premier travel policy holder, we’ll offer you up to £1000 per trip for extra costs if your delay means your pre booked accommodation is no longer available
