The sun is shining, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show is almost upon us and there’s still plenty of time to get the garden ready for the summer. You probably don’t need any extra persuasion, – but just in case you do, here’s our graphic of some of gardening’s best health benefits.

There are lots of studies praising the health benefits of gardening, many of which were compiled in last year’s Gardens and health report, commissioned by the National Gardens Scheme.

From our heads to our hands – and even our hearts to our stomachs – getting stuck into a spot of gardening can improve your wellbeing in a variety of ways.

So why not plan to spend a little of your pension period among the flower pots? Or, if you’re approaching retirement, carve out a little time to work the turf this year.
