With a critical illness, you want to be sure that the cover you choose will be there for when you need it the most.
Here're some of the most common conditions our customers claimed on last year.
1 in 2 people born after 1960 are expected to get cancer in their lifetime (Cancer Research UK). In fact, nearly 60% of all our critical illness claims in 2021 were due to cancer.
Heart and circulatory disease cause a quarter of all deaths in the UK; that’s more than 160,000 deaths each year – an average of 460 deaths each day or one every three minutes in the UK.
Strokes cause around 34,000 deaths in the UK each year (BHF). Strokes are a major health problem and are the single largest cause of disability for the UK.
Full payment conditions covered
For the following less serious conditions, we’ll pay the lower of 25% of your amount of cover up to £30,000. If we pay a claim under one of these conditions, then your policy will still continue for your full amount of cover.
We have nine full payment conditions where we’ll pay an additional 50% of your cover, up to a maximum of £200,000 (on top of your cover). This happens if your claim is as a direct result of an accident.
Children's critical illness cover
If children’s cover (optional at an additional cost) is added to the policy, we’ll cover your child for the following conditions. If a claim is made for one child we’ll pay the lower of 50% of your amount of cover up to £35,000. We’ll only pay for one full payment condition for each child. If we pay a claim under one of these conditions, then your policy will still continue for your full amount of cover.
For the following less serious conditions, if a claim is made for one child we’ll pay the lower of 25% of your amount of cover up to £15,000. If we pay a claim under one of these conditions, then your policy will still continue for your full amount of cover.
Pregnancy complication payments (available only if children’s cover has been added).
We’ll pay £5,000 per pregnancy if the person insured by LV= Life and Critical Illness policy is diagnosed with one of the listed specified complications of pregnancy.
For 13 conditions we’ll pay 100% of the parent’s amount of cover or £70,000. If the child is covered by more than one policy the maximum we’ll pay across all policies is £140,000.
For three organ related full payment conditions if a child is diagnosed with one of these conditions and meets the claim criteria we will pay twice the normal amount for a child’s claim.
For ten full payment conditions if the cause of the claim was as a direct result of an accident we will pay twice the normal amount for a child’s claim.
