Heather Smith looks ahead to PrideFest and Mela in Croydon

As a company with a large presence in Croydon, it’s really important to us that we celebrate all the things that make it such a dynamic and interesting place to work and live. That’s why we’ve teamed up with the Croydon Cultural Partnership to help create more cultural programmes, projects and events in the borough, and it all kicks off this weekend when we take to the streets to embrace the sights and sounds of Croydon PrideFest and Mela.

Croydon PrideFest is the second largest Pride event in London, celebrating LGBTQ+ people, raising awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and campaigning for equality. It returns to Wandle Park for the fourth year running on Saturday 13 July, with lots of entertainment starting from midday and going through until about 10pm.

The event starts out with a parade through Croydon town centre, finishing up in the park, where there will be music, food and drink, plus some very special guests. We’ll be there soaking up the atmosphere on our LV= stall with plenty of bunting, banners, flags and even a face-painter.

Mela also returns to Croydon for the third year, celebrating diverse Asian culture at this vibrant festival. Mela originates from the Indian sub-continent and the word comes from the Sanskrit ‘to meet’. It’s commonly used to describe a large gathering of people, a fair or festival. This year, we’ll be dancing the day away and enjoying the  food and crafts on Sunday 14 July at Wandle Park from 1-8pm and do come by the LV= stall to say hi.

"It makes me immensely proud to be able to contribute to these hugely important events. The spirit of togetherness that both of them encompass is infectious, and we hope to be part of the fabric of Croydon’s rich tapestry for many years to come."
