Sometimes claims have to be declined. Below are the reasons for declining claims in 2015.

* An example of misrepresentation would be a customer applies for a critical illness policy and declares on the application form that he is a non-smoker. Following a claim for cancer, we find that his medical records show that he was a heavy smoker before and after the policy started. When we ask him why he stated that he was a non-smoker, he fails to offer any reasonable explanation. In these circumstances it’s reasonable that the customer must have known he was smoker and that he knew he should have told us he was a smoker in his application.

** An example of a critical illness claim that doesn’t meet the definition would be when a customer makes a claim believing they’ve suffered a heart attack, but their medical expert tells us that they actually have angina and did not suffer a heart attack.
