It's easy to think a critical illness isn't going to happen to us, but should the worst happen you can help make sure your family and loved ones are protected by easing their financial worries. Our life with critical illness cover can pay a lump sum if you die or suffer a critical illness.

Cover features

  • Pays a lump sum if you die, or are diagnosed with one of the63 listed illnesses during the term of your policy.
  • Includes additional payments for 20 less serious conditions - if a claim is paid your cover remains in place for the full amount.
  • Choose the amount of cover you need and how long you want it to last.
  • Option of choosinglevel, decreasing or inflation-linked cover (inflation-linked is not available on-line).
    Decreasing cover reduces the amount paid over time, inflation-linked increases each year in line with your premium, level is fixed and won't keep up with inflation.
  • Children’s critical illness cover included at no extra cost, from birth until 21st birthday (covered for all conditions apart from diabetes mellitus type 1).
  • Cover available from £5 a month.
  • Choose guaranteed or reviewable premiums.
  • Single cover for you or joint cover for you and your partner.
  • For an additional cost, your premiums could be paid for you if you're unable to work (waiver of premium).

Important information

  • You need to decide if this product is right for you and speak to a financial adviser if you’re not sure.
  • If you die, we'll normally pay the lump sum to your estate. Inheritance tax could apply to the part that's worth over £325,000 (tax years 2017/18 to 2018/19).
  • We only pay for illnesses covered in our policy and no others.
  • Adult critical illness claims will only be paid if you survive for at least 14 days after being diagnosed.
  • We won’t pay a claim if you die as a result of intentionally taking your own life within the first 12 months of your policy.
  • If you stop paying your premiums you won't get any money back and your cover may stop.
  • This is a term policy, so you will only be covered for the period you have chosen.
  • Once the policy ends, the cover stops and you won't get any money back.

How to buy our life insurance with critical illness cover:

All we ask is that you're a UK resident and that you're aged 17 to 64 when your policy starts. Your policy must last for at least 5 years (our minimum term) and can't last for longer than 40 years (our maximum term). The policy must end before any person insured reaches the age of 70.

Nectar terms and conditions

  • Nectar points are only available on policies purchased through the LV= website from Nectar eshops. They are not available for purchases made by telephone or post.
  • Nectar points are allocated once LV= have collected six consecutive months’ premiums and the application has been validated. LV= allow up to 2 months for validation so it can take up to 8 months from when you submit your application until you receive your Nectar points.
  • Please allow the confirmation page of your policy to fully load before closing the window to ensure your purchase has tracked correctly.
  • LV= may not allocate Nectar points where they determine, or reasonably believe the terms of the points offer are being abused in any way. LV= may also not allocate Nectar points for anyone who has previously held an LV= Life Insurance with Critical Illness, or similar policy with LV=, and cancelled it or had it cancelled by LV=. LV= reserve the rights to reclaim any points given in such circumstances.
  • There is no cash alternative for Nectar points.
  • If you cancel your policy within six months you will not be allocated any Nectar points.
  • Your Nectar points will be allocated directly through the Nectar website. If you have any queries about your points, please contact Nectar, not LV=.
  • This offer may be withdrawn or amended at any time. LV= reserves the right at its sole discretion not to allocate Nectar points.
