Sunderland might not be the first place to pop into mind when you’re planning your next UK staycation, but this city settled in the heart of England’s north-east is a powered-up paradise for the electric car owner.

It’s not only home to the UK’s first fast charging station, but Sunderland is also a fantastic family-friendly destination.

Sunderland has history with EVs, with the ever-popular Nissan Leaf produced here. As such, there are plenty of on and off-street options when it comes to charging electric cars

But that’s not all. Uncover the rich industrial heritage of northern England at Sunderland’s Museum and Winter Gardens. What’s more, it’s just a stone’s throw away from charging points, so you can plug in and explore the coast or head to your next destination with ease.

This is a spoilt corner of the country when it comes to tourist attractions, with the iconic Angel of the North and the open-air living Beamish Museum just short drives from Sunderland city centre.

Get behind the wheel of some of the latest and greatest electric cars at the UK’s first dedicated electric vehicle education centre.

Easy to reach and surrounded by family-friendly days out, Milton Keynes makes a great base for any EV explorer. There are charging stations throughout the city and, with a 7-day loan system available at the Experience Centre, you can even try going green during your break.

Take the little ones to the fairground at Gulliver’s Land, where you’ll find theme park fun for all the family, or explore the beauty of Woburn Abbey, which is just 7 miles south of Milton Keynes.

If you and your family are feeling a bit more active, why not hit the slopes at nearby Snozone? Explore any of these attractions without ever being too far away from the next charging station.

Winner of the 2019 E-Visionary Award for its EV-welcoming streets, Dundee is putting other cities to shame.

You’ll find dedicated hubs providing spaces to store and charge your car, while there are plenty of other charging points scattered all over Dundee, so you’ll never go short.

But there’s more to this vibrant Scottish city than just embracing the electric life. Design fans should head to the stunning V&A Museum, a brand-new site dedicated to the world of art and design and the first Victoria & Albert Museum outside of London.

Alternatively, you could step back in time aboard the historical 19th century HMS Unicorn. The restored Royal Navy warship allows you to experience what life was like for a Victorian-era sailor.

Millions of tourists flock to London every year to explore its museums, galleries, landmarks and more.

Being amongst the most popular, and well connected, cities on the planet, it should come as no surprise that London is positively charged for EVs. Central boroughs benefit from more charging stations than the capital’s outskirts, with Westminster currently holding the title for most .

Whether you delve into the 50,000 living plants at Kew Gardens or head further afield to Windsor Castle, London has something for everyone.

If you don’t fancy embracing the hubbub of Central London by car, don’t panic. Even outer boroughs like Ealing or Bromley have enough charging points to easily get around.
