Victoria Philpott from Vicky FlipFlop Travels takes us through her experience in Philippines.

One of my absolute favourite travel experiences was sailing with Tao Expeditions from El Nido to Coron in Palawan, in the Philippines. We visited 4 barely inhabited islands along the way and saw countless more of the 7,107 in the country.

By day we dived off the boat and snorkelled when we came across a good spot. We fished with line and relaxed on deck with the rum flowing. We wrestled each other on the rigs of the boat, taking turns to sit pensively on the bow before gathering on the top deck for sundowner cocktails every evening.

By night we’d moor at a desert island and cook up the fish on a fire as we watch the sun set. I made new friends from the US, from Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany and of course, with the crew from the Philippines. We talked freely without the distractions from the modern world and on every subject, no holds barred. We slept under the stars with only mosquito nets for protection exhausted from a day at sea.

The whole experience was back to basics, simple and honest. We made friends with the few locals we came across, and played basketball and even sang karaoke.

My week sailing round the Philippines with Tao Expeditions was without a doubt one of the best weeks of my life and I’m not sure I’ll ever get over it!
