Enjoy the festive season with LV='s free contents cover uplift

Christmas is fast approaching, and with increased spending on gifts, extra food and drink – the festive season can soon add up.

Having the right level of contents cover during this time helps provide peace of mind and means you can focus on enjoying the festivities rather than worrying about things going wrong - which is why LV= is automatically adding 10% uplift to its home insurance customers over the Christmas period¹. The increase, applied for one month before and after Christmas Day, ensures you’re adequately covered throughout the holiday season.

Insurers receive thousands of claims for loss or damage to home contents in the run up to and after Christmas every year, with the most common claims being accidental damage, water leaks caused by pipes freezing and bursting, storm damage and theft².

Selwyn Fernandes, Managing Director of LV= home insurance, said: “There are a million-and-one things to think about this month, and home insurance is probably quite low on the list. With our free 10% increase in cover over the Christmas period, our home contents customers can rest assured that their contents are protected should anything go wrong.”

LV= home insurance, is a five star Defaqto rated product and includes, as standard, accidental damage cover for your TVs, DVD players, games consoles and computers. It also includes £1,000 cover for your digital downloads such as music and movies.

LV= has produced some handy hints to avoid mishaps this Christmas:

  • Only buy Christmas tree lights from a reputable seller and don’t leave them on when you’re out of the house;
  • Think about how visible your presents are from outside when you’re not in – and try to cover them if possible;
  • Don’t leave boxes for presents lying outside your house as they could advertise what you’ve got.

If you’re planning on getting away or visiting love ones, you can reduce the likelihood of pipes freezing by leaving your central heating on low. And if you’re going away for a few days, it’s worth turning off the water at the stopcock and draining the system, so there’s no water left in the pipes (remembering to turn the taps off again once it’s drained).
