Registration Opens for the LV= Brentwood Half Marathon and Fun Run 2012

Press release: 08/08/2011

The 2012 LV= Brentwood Half Marathon and Fun Run opens for registrations today Monday 8 August 2011.

The annual race taking place on Sunday 25 March 2012 attracts thousands of runners every year and many more supporters on the day. The event has become such a success that it now attracts serious runners from across the country as well as many local athletes. The maximum number of runners allowed is 2,900 for the half marathon and 1,000 for the fun run. Places are expected to go quickly now registration is open so anyone intending to run the 2012 race is encouraged to register as soon as possible. The race organisers operate a strict registration policy to ensure the event runs safely and participants must register beforehand.

Graham Carter, race director at the Brentwood à Becket Rotary Club, said: "When we launched the race in 1980 we had no idea it would become so popular. Runners used to just register on the day and join the race but with nearly 4,000 entrants to co-ordinate, that is just not possible now. Although the race is six months away, the places are very popular and we expect them to fill up quickly. The only way to guarantee your place in the race is to register on the website."

Phil Bunker, managing director of LV= broker, said: "This is our first year of sponsoring the LV= Brentwood Half Marathon and Fun Run. We really want the day to be fun for everyone and would encourage all those who are keen to take part to register for a place now."

The run will take place on Sunday 25 March 2012, with the half marathon runners setting off at 10.00am and the fun run participants setting off at 10.20am. The race begins at the Sawyers Hall College of Science & Technology (formerly known as the Hedley Walter School), Sawyers Hall Lane, Brentwood. Runners can register for a place in the race online at www.brentwoodhalf.org from today Monday 8 August 2011.
