With a choice of three 'ready made' fund options, the Flexible Guarantee Bond allows you to decide how much risk you want to take. And, as life is not predictable and your financial priorities can change as time goes by, you can switch from one fund option to another, make regular or occasional withdrawals, and, depending on your chosen fund option, even buy an optional investment guarantee to protect your investment.

Quick guide
Our Flexible Guarantee Bond lets you:
- invest from £5,000 to £500,000
- invest for at least five years and ideally ten years or more
- have the potential for your investment to grow through the performance of UK and overseas stocks and shares
- buy a five-year guarantee (for our Cautious Series 2 and Balanced Series 2 fund options). This means you'll get back your investment, less any withdrawals, on the fifth anniversary of buying the guarantee
- automatically have a further guarantee at the end of any five-year guarantee, unless you tell us otherwise
Important things you should know
- this is a stock market related investment, not a savings account
- you're not certain to make a profit, and the value of your bond can go down as well as up
- guarantees aren't available for the Managed Growth Fund
- if you cash in your bond in part or in full at any time other than on the fifth anniversary of buying a guarantee, you may get back less than you invested
- if you cash in all or part of your bond, you may incur an exit charge in the first five years
- if you take withdrawals, this will eat into your original investment, if you withdraw more than the growth on your bond
Who can apply for our Flexible Guarantee Bond?
All we ask is that:
- you're a UK resident
- you're aged 17 to 89
Fund options
Cautious Series 2
- This fund option is designed to provide the potential for steady growth.
- The fund is mainly invested in fixed interest securities with the balance in equities and property.
- This is the lowest risk fund option under our Bond and therefore offers the lowest growth potential.
Balanced Series 2
- This fund option is designed to provide the potential for moderate growth.
- Around half of this fund is invested in fixed interest securities with the balance in equities and property.
- We believe this fund is higher risk than the Cautious Series 2 fund, but lower risk than the Managed Growth fund.
Managed Growth
- This fund option is designed to provide the potential for higher growth than the other two fund options.
- This fund is riskier than our Cautious Series 2 and Balanced Series 2 funds.
- Around two thirds of the fund is invested in equity and property, with the rest in fixed interest securities.
Five year capital guarantee
We know that it’s vital to feel at home and relaxed with your investment choice. That’s why we offer the option of a five year investment guarantee for the Balanced Series 2 and Cautious Series 2 fund options.
When you buy a guarantee with either of these fund options, we promise that your bond will be worth at least the amount of the investment on the fifth anniversary from the date you bought the guarantee, less any money you take out. Naturally, if your bond is worth more than the guaranteed amount you get the extra as well.
Buying a guarantee like this means you can lock in any gains your investment has made. If you’re worried about a market downturn, you can choose to buy a guarantee to protect your investment over the next five years. Alternatively, you may prefer to purchase the guarantee after your money has been invested to lock in the gains you have made.
