Our 50 Plus plan pays a lump sum when you’re no longer around
*The amount of cover you get for your money is better now than it was between 21st December 2012 and 22nd April 2013.
The funeral benefit option is where you choose to have the lump sum of your 50 plus plan paid automatically toward the cost of your funeral.
Find out more about how the funeral benefit works
By selecting the funeral benefit option in your 50 Plus application, you can help your family even more by getting up to an extra 10% on top of your amount of cover. So for every £1,000 of your amount of cover that is used towards funeral costs, you could get an extra £100 (up to a maximum of £1,000).
The average cost of a basic funeral in 2012 in the UK was £3,122* and this is estimated to increase to £4,865 by 2020*.
However, this doesn't include personal touches like:
Our research on funerals shows that this could push up the average cost of a funeral in 2014 to as much as £3,489 not including any extras. These extras pushed the cost of a funeral in 2012 up to £3,809**.
We work with a company called Dignity, they're one of the UK's largest funeral service providers with a network of over 600 funeral directors. Every year, they arrange one in eight of the funerals that take place in the UK.
It's important to make allowances for the increase in the cost of living. Your 50 Plus plan cover is fixed so the lump sum you select now may not be worth as much in the future
