- Phone us or write to LV= Travel Insurance, Claims Department, Funtington Park, Cheesmans Lane, Hambrook, Chichester PO18 8UE, and ask us to send you a claim form.
- Fill in the form and send it to us as soon as possible with all the information and documents we ask for.
- Give us as much detail as possible so we can handle your claim as quickly as possible.
- You may need to obtain some information about your claim while you’re away. See the list below for processes to follow and documents we’ll need.
For all claims we’ll need:
- original journey booking invoice(s) and travel documents showing the dates and times of travel
- original receipts and accounts for all out of pocket expenses you’ve had to pay
- original bills or invoices you’re asked to pay
- details of any other insurance you may have that may cover the same loss, for example, household or private medical
- as much evidence as possible to support your claim
Claims made under a specific policy section:
Cancellation and cutting short your trip
- if you need to cut short (curtail) your journey please call us immediately on the 24-hour emergency line
- provide original cancellation invoices(s) showing all cancellation charges you’ve incurred
- for claims relating to illness/injury (including your inability to go on pre-booked trips) please provide a medical certificate from the doctor treating you or your travelling companion. If you die, we'll need a signed copy of the death certificate.
- provide evidence of the circumstances if you want to claim for cancelling or cutting short your journey for reasons other than illness or injury
- you must contact our 24-hour emergency medical service if you have to go into hospital, need sending home or to hospital in the UK or if your medical fees are likely to be higher than £250
- provide medical evidence from the treating doctor to confirm the illness or injury and treatment given, including the date you went into and the date you left hospital if this applies
- provide evidence of quarantine from a doctor or official body, including the dates of quarantine
Loss of passport or driving licence
- provide original receipts for extra travel and accommodation costs
- report the loss to the local police within 24 hours of discovery and get a written report from them
- for loss of passport also provide written confirmation/receipt from the Consulate where the incident happened, showing date of loss and cost of replacement
Delayed personal possessions
- tell your airline as soon as possible
- for delayed baggage claim in writing to an EU airline within 21 days of your baggage being returned to you
Personal possessions and personal money
- report the theft, damage or loss to the local police within 24 hours of discovering the incident and ask them for a written police report
- also report the theft, damage or loss to transport adviser/holiday representative within 24 hours of discovering the incident and ask for a written report
- provide original receipts/evidence of purchase/value for the items
- keep any damaged items as we may need to inspect them (if we make a payment, or we replace an item, the item will then belong to us)
- get an estimate for repair for all damaged items
- to claim for damage to checked-in baggage write to an EU airline within 7 days of the baggage being returned to you
- to claim for loss or damage of items in transit tell your airline as soon as possible
- give a detailed account of the circumstances of the event and provide photographs/videos if available
- provide medical evidence from the doctor treating you including dates you were in hospital
- give full details of any witnesses including written statements, if available
- provide signed copy of death certificate if this applies
- provide a detailed account of the circumstances causing you to miss your departure including evidence from the public transport provider/breakdown authority etc
- provide written confirmation from the airline/rail company/coach/shipping line of the scheduled and actual departure times and reasons for the delays
Personal liability and legal expenses
- provide a detailed account of the circumstances of the claim (including, photographs and video evidence if this applies)
- send us copies of any writ, summons or other correspondence you receive from anyone else
- don't admit responsibility, offer payment or correspond with anyone without our written permission
- provide names and addresses of any witnesses and written statements, if available
- provide original receipts for additional travel and accommodation expenses
- provide original booking invoices and travel documents showing dates and times of travel and confirmation of accommodation
- provide written confirmation of the disaster from the local or national authority of the area where it happened, unless the circumstances of the natural disaster make this impossible
- provide supporting evidence from the appropriate authority confirming the hijack or kidnap
- call us on our travel insurance claims number for authorisation of your claim
- provide medical evidence from the doctor treating you to confirm your illness or injury means you need help at home
- call us on our travel insurance claims number for authorisation of your claim before booking your recovery holiday
- provide medical evidence from the doctor treating you confirming you are fit to take your recovery holiday
- provide confirmation from your transport and accommodation provider that your recovery holiday will be taken within 90 days of you returning home
- if you need cosmetic surgery, call us on our travel insurance claims number for authorisation of your claim
- provide medical evidence from the doctor treating you to confirm your illness or injury requires cosmetic surgery and that this will be performed within 90 days of you returning home
- if you need a medical examination, call us on our travel insurance claims number for authorisation of your claim
- provide medical evidence from the doctor treating you to confirm that this will be performed within 30 days of you returning home
Ski pack and loss of green fees
- provide medical evidence from the doctor treating you to confirm your illness/injury/treatment given including hospital admission/discharge, if this applies
- provide a medical certificate as confirmation if you’ve been advised by a doctor at your resort that you can’t take part in your pre-booked ski/golf activities because of medical
Ski, golf and business equipment
- provide us with all the same appropriate evidence as required for claims under Delayed personal possessions and Personal possessions and personal money
- provide all hire receipts
- provide a written report from your airline if your ski, golf or business equipment is delayed or sent to the wrong destination
- provide written confirmation from your tour operator/local piste authority/ski lift operator confirming the reason for the closure and how long it lasted
Loss, theft or damage to wedding rings, gifts or attire
- provide us with the same evidence required for claims under Personal possessions and personal money
Wedding photographs and videos
- provide us with the same evidence required for claims under Personal possessions and personal money
- provide written evidence from the photographer confirming the incident
- provide an estimate for taking or retaking replacement photographs or a video
Replacement business associate
- provide a medical certificate from the doctor treating you for claims relating to your illness/injury. If you die, we'll need a signed copy of the death certificate
- written confirmation from a director of your workplace that it was necessary for a business associate to take your place on a trip
