Applying for a home insurance quote is straightforward and only takes you minutes to complete. We'll guide you through the form and let you know what details we need to offer you a competitive quote.

The boxes below explain the four easy stages of the application, so you know what information you'll need to have to hand to get your quote and apply, and what to expect afterwards.

Step 1 - About you

You'll be asked to fill in your personal details like:

  • name
  • address
  • age
  • phone number
  • email address
  • home ownership status
  • how long you've lived there
  • claims history over past three years
  • if you have any criminal convictions
  • if you already have LV= home or car insurance

If you'd like to add a joint policy holder, you'll need to know details like their name and date of birth.

Step 2 - Your property

This asks about the type of property you want to insure, including:

  • when it was built, if it's of standard construction and what condition it's in
  • if it's a listed building
  • how many bedrooms it has
  • how it's used (rented or owner occupied)
  • how many adults live there and how many children
  • any subsidence, landslip or heave
  • any flooding
  • if there are security locks fitted on external doors
  • if windows have security locks fitted
  • if there's a centrally monitored alarm system fitted

Step 3 - Your home insurance quote

Next you'll see your quote. If you'd like to make any changes to your policy you can do so and recalculate your quote.

You can choose to:

  • change the amount of contents cover
  • add buildings or contents accidental damage cover
  • add a voluntary excess
  • add personal possessions cover for any items you take away from the home
  • add bicycle cover away from the home

This page also shows the policy details, documents of insurance, important information and policy conditions.

Step 4 - Buy online

Before we take you to our secure payment screen, you'll be asked to:

  • check that your personal and house information is correct
  • make sure you're happy with the summary of cover, which shows your excess and limits of cover
  • read your documents of insurance, policy summary and important information

Depending on the amount of your premium, you'll be given the choice of paying in full by credit card or debit card, or splitting your payments into several direct debits.

We'll then ask you to enter your credit or debit card details and confirm you're the authorised holder for the account.

What happens after you buy online

When you've finished your quote and bought your home insurance we'll send you an email to confirm the transaction and give you your new policy number.

We'll also post you your home insurance policy documents, and you should get them in the following week. If they still haven't arrived after ten working days, please call us and we'll send you a new set.

We'll send you a renewal quote for your home insurance 25 days before your policy runs out. If you pay for your home insurance by direct debit, we'll automatically renew your policy each year, so if you'd like to change this when you renew, please call us.

Our policy has a 14-day cooling-off period. This means that if you change your mind and you'd like to cancel your policy, just let us know within 14 days of receiving your documents. We'll then refund any money you've paid, less a charge for the cover you’ve had and a cancellation charge for setting up the policy. If you call before your cover started we’ll refund all the premium you’ve paid.
