Home insurance UK

It's not a legal requirement for homeowners to have home insurance in the UK, but it's worth considering the benefits of insuring your home.

In the UK, as with most countries in the world, you need car insurance if you want to drive a car. Having car insurance is compulsory before you get behind the wheel of car, unlike home insurance in the UK, which while a good idea, is not a legal requirement.

If you have a mortgage on your property then it's likely that you'll be required to have buildings insurance as part of the terms of the mortgage, though remember you are generally under no obligation to take insurance from them. But even then, it's unlikely that you'll be required to take out contents insurance.

However, if you choose not to take out buildings or contents insurance, you should consider the risks. What would you do if your house had a major fire or was broken into and your most valuable possessions were stolen? Would you financially be able to pay for repairs to your home or repair or replace damaged or lost contents? Your home and its contents are likely to be some of the biggest financial expenditures you'll make in your life, and it makes sense to consider the consequences of losing them or protecting yourself from such losses.

Home insurance options

With home insurance in the UK (which is sometimes referred to as house insurance or household insurance) you can choose cover to protect your buildings, contents or both. And with both buildings and contents insurance, you can choose to insure your home and its possessions against a number of different perils (including fire, theft, storm damage) as well as the option of adding accidental damage to provide even more cover.

LV= home insurance gives you the option to select buildings insurance and contents insurance separately or together on the same policy. In addition to features and benefits that are automatically included, you have the choice to add optional home insurance extras like legal expenses and cover for your bicycles and personal possessions.
